The Dewey Decimal System arranges resources by subject. The main categories are:

000   General knowledge

100   Philosophy, Psychology

200   Religion

300   Social sciences

400   Language

500   Pure sciences

600   Technology (Applied sciences)

700   The Arts

800   Literature (works of Fiction and Poetry are shelved in their own sections)

900   Human Geography and History

The Non-fiction collection is a multimedia collection and includes books (textbooks plus background and wider reading books), teaching packs, posters, CDs, DVDs and games. There are materials suitable for all levels from Early Years to Post-Compulsory. All the main curriculum subjects are covered and we maintain contact with IOE teaching staff to ensure that the collection is as up-to-date and relevant as possible. Multiple copies of items are purchased where demand warrants it.

Resources are arranged by subject using the Dewey Decimal Classification system. Folktales, charts and some oversize materials are shelved in separate sequences.
