The Reverend Richard Brooke of Selby in Yorkshire donated this Collection to the Government's Department of Science and Art in 1864, and it eventually passed to the Department for Education, who deposited it with the Institute in 1992.
It consists of 17th and 18th century printed books in English, of a broadly educational and instructional nature. The images on this page show the spelling and rhyming books in the collection.
