Do you have questions about your loans? You can contact us by:

Library Fines

8-week loan: £0.20 per day. They may be reserved and subject to recall after 1 week (2 weeks for Student and Staff on SORA).

1-week loan: £0.30 per day. They may be reserved but not subject to recall.

1-day loan: £0.50 per hour when returned after 10am,

Laptop loan: £5.00 per day when returned after due date,

2-week loan: For SORA users exclusively.


8-week loan: Renewable (if not reserved). 

1-week loan: Renewable (if not reserved).

1-day loan: Not renewable.

Laptop loan: Not renewable 

Laptop Loans

Laptop Loans are on a rolling 24 hour loan. If a laptop is borrowed on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, it should be returned at 10:00 on Monday. If the library opens at 10:00, a 70-minute grace period will apply to returns. 


You can renew books without visiting the UCL by logging into UCL Explore. If you aren't sure how to renew books, visit our page on renewing books on Explore. Please note that you cannot renew books if they are:

  • A one day loan.
  • Overdue. 
  • Recalled by another library user.

Borrowing & Renewal Threshold

Your Library Account status will be BLOCKED if your overdue fines and/or Library replacement charge for lost or damaged books reaches:

• £20 for UCL Staff and Student.
• £10 for Non-UCL External borrowers.
