Accessing Dawsonera Ebooks

Format

  • DRM-protected PDF.

symbol for read online If you choose to Read Online, you will be able to:

  • annotate pages and share your annotations with other users.
  • search within the full text of the book.
  • copy 5-10% of the book.
  • print 5-20% of the book.

Download symbol If you choose to Download, you will be able to:

  • select the number of days you will borrow the book for.
  • save the ebook to your disk or drive for that number of days.
  • download the book again once it has expired.

You will not be able to:

  • print or copy.

Sometimes books will have an "add to queue" button. This means the maximum number of people are already reading the book, but you can choose to be notified when it is available.

External users

External users who would like to access our Dawsonera titles can do so using the Explore computers available in the library.

Make sure to select the 'Dawsonera EAP users' option.

Printing from DawsonEra on campus

If you are on the UCL campus, you may be prompted to login when you try and print from DawsonEra's online reader.

Choose to login with Shibboleth:

Select "UCL - University College London" from the list of institutions, then login with your usual UCL username and password.

Once you are logged in, DawsonEra will take you back to its search screen, and you will need to find the book again.

You should only be prompted for your Shibboleth login for printing once per session.

Downloading Dawsonera ebooks

  • Create an Adobe ID if you don’t already have one. 
  • Download Adobe Digital Editions or the BlueFire Reader app.
  • Authorise ADE or the BlueFire Reader app with your Adobe ID.
  • Access the e-book on Dawsonera via Explore and choose to download to either Adobe Digital Editions or Bluefire Reader as appropriate.

You can authorise up to 6 computers/devices with your Adobe ID, which means that an e-book you download to one will be available to you on the others too.

  • IE 7,8,9,10,11.
  • Safari 7.x.
  • Safari 8 (for critical areas).
