Welcome: Library Reopening

Explore Europe's Largest Education Library

Library Opening During Lockdown.

The IOE Library is open. To ensure that the space is safe for students and staff to use, we've made some changes to the space and to our procedures.

Entering the Library

To enter the library you will need:

  • A valid UCL ID card.
  • An email confirming that you have a Click and Collect order waiting for you OR a desk booking.
  • A face mask (unless you are exempt from wearing a face covering).

The library is currently only open to current UCL students and staff and external borrowers who still have valid cards. Study desks can only be booked by current UCL students or staff.

The entrance to the IOE is on Level 3, 20 Bedford Way. You will not be able to access from the Woburn Square Level 4 entrance. Upon entering the building, you must scan your card in the level 3 entrance vestibule. You must also scan your card when exiting the building on Level 3.

Booking a Desk

To study in the library, you will need to book a desk prior to your visit. To book a desk, visit the UCL Desk Booking page

Click and Collect

In order to ensure social distancing, parts of our collection cannot be accessed. If you would like to borrow a book from our library, please order it via Click and Collect. You can find out more on our Click and Collect Libguide.

Please do not visit the library until you have received confirmation that your books are ready to collect.

Service update: The entirety of the Comparative Education Collection, and sections of the Non-Education Collection are currently not accessible to users to support safe social distancing within the IOE Library. These books are only accessible through Click and Collect.

Service update: Items form the IOE Stores, Dissertation, and Thesis collections are not currently accessible to staff nor students, and cannot be requested via Click and Collect. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience. If you require assistance in finding alternatives, please contact us:

Unless you have a valid reason for not wearing a mask, please wear a mask throughout the IOE building, and while moving around UCL campuses.

Please stay 2 meters from other people using the space.

If you feel unwell, please do not come into the library and stay home instead.

Sanitisation stations are available with handgel and desk wipes.

For more information on keeping safe on campus visit the UCL microsite.

Returning Books

If you only need to return books, you can do this in the book bin just inside the Level 3 Bedford Way entrance to the IOE.

Or, if you are picking up a click and collect item or have booked a study space, you can also return books using the self-service machines in the Library on Level 4. Please remember to press 'check in' on the screen when you start.
